ASHLEY/AMBER is a short film about an antiwar activist who becomes internet famous after being outed as the one-time star of a porn video. The film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in 2011 and is now available online under a CC-BY-NC license.

Shot in luscious 16mm, ASHLEY/AMBER probes at the intersection of gender, sexuality, and fame: how women are portrayed on the screen, in the media, and in the broader American psyche; what it takes for a woman to be recognized by the culture; and the control one has to manipulate these cultural tendencies towards different ends.

The film is the undergraduate thesis of Rebecca Rojer, a recent Harvard graduate. It won “Best Student Film” at the NJ Int’l Film Festival, an Audience Choice Award at the Williamsburg Int’l Film Festival, and is featured on the German DVD compilation “Back to Politics.”
